街を歩くと猫雑貨や猫ファッションが目に付きませんか。いま空前の「猫ブーム」のようです。テレビでは「猫の島」や「猫好き男子」の特集が組まれ、インターネットにも猫の写真や動画があふれています。

そのおかげもあってか環境庁の統計によれば、保健所に引き取られる猫も平成２１年度から年間20万匹を下回るようになり、毎年少しずつではありますが減少傾向にあるとのこと。

歴史をひも解けば猫と人間の付き合いは長く、古くは紀元前２０００年頃、あるいはもっと昔からエジプト地域で飼われ、日本でも『枕草子』や『源氏物語』に登場するほどです。数千年の時を人間と共存してきた猫たちとブームを楽しみながらもマナーを守り、上手に暮らしていきたいですね。
As we know from history,people and cats have a long relationship. Since
2000 B.C. or even before that ,people had cats in the Egypt area ,and cats
show up in ancient Japanese books such as "The Pillow Book" and
"The Tale of Genji". It would be ideal if we can live with cats
enjoying the boom and being responsible with their lives since people and
cats have a few thousands years of history.
